I first began lifting at New School, Swindon as a part of the Powerlifting enrichment that ran as soon as every week throughout my Tuesday lunch break. After a couple of months I joined the school gymnasium and ran a primary coaching break up alongside the enrichment, and in August I started coaching at SBB.
After finishing head coach Charlie’s novice programme I began one in all Sheiko’s 4 day programmes. In November I competed within the SBB Bitesize competitors to check my openers for the West Midlands (WM) Championships on December third. Going into the WM comp, I hoped to hit numbers that I hadn’t beforehand within the gymnasium and see how snug I used to be with the weights.
Apart from the higher variety of rivals and the unfamiliar atmosphere, I used to be additionally nervous to be lifting alongside some ridiculously sturdy (and for essentially the most half, senior) rivals within the girls’s flight. Coach Karl helped me with my warm-ups and coached me through the comp, which was actually useful when it got here to getting me to calm the f*!ok down as I used to be an enormous ol’ bag of nerves throughout my squats. It was actually nice to have him and the opposite SBB members there for assist and encouragement, particularly as I used to be going to be making an attempt private bests on all of my closing lifts.
The competitors itself was run extraordinarily effectively and was extremely swift. I don’t actually have any cons by way of the competitors, however I do wish to work on controlling my nerves after I compete.
I achieved private bests on all 3 of my lifts with:
- 105kg squat for a brand new SW document
- 55kg bench to match the present SW document
- 112.5kg on my deadlift
- 272.5kg whole.
I positively had extra within the tank!! Additionally fairly satisfied I’ve achieved 300 Wilkes factors. Sooner or later I simply wish to proceed constructing energy and growing my whole, particularly getting my poverty deadlift as much as above 2x body weight. Subsequent 12 months I’m hoping to symbolize Swindon Barbell within the British Championships, as each my totals on the SBB Bitesize and the WM regionals imply I’ve certified for each Traditional and Outfitted Nationals.
“We’re very happy with Emily, her dedication and subsequent progress throughout the atmosphere of Swindon Barbell Membership,” stated Head Coach Charlie Shotton-Gale.
“She was noticed as a expertise early on by [Coach] Helen and myself through the New School Powerlifting membership classes and has thrown herself in to her energy progressions.
“We hope to take her to the British Equipped Championships on Jan 20-21 2018, her research permitting, and the British Junior Championships later that 12 months.”
